It isn't the first time sexism has creeped into Nintendo products, with the Super Mario Manga having its share of raunchy jokes, but it's too bad nothing new has been attempted since. Super Princess Peach isn't a terrible game, but it's a shame that Nintendo decided to paint her only title with the broad strokes of overly-assumed 'girly' mechanics like emotion-based abilities. It would have been nice to see Peach not carried off by Mario for once, and instead have it be the other way around. Mario proceeds to sweep Peach off her feet. After defeating Bowser for the millionth time, Peach and Perry open the door to Mario's cage. Unfortunately, Nintendo robbed Peach of her big finale. Occasionally Peach gets to deliver some righteous justice to Bower's minions herself, and she tosses Luigi around like nothing after she rescues him. Whether it's crying all over the place, getting so angry she catches fire, or becoming happy and flying about, it's pretty cringe inducing. Whenever Peach gains enough Vibe, she can activate her powerful emotions. The entire game focuses on emotions, actually, given that it takes place on Vibe Island, but it is pretty safe to assume that Peach's role as the protagonist influenced the world of the game's narrative. Peach's main abilities, beyond what Perry can do, revolve around her emotions. It's too bad Princess Peach couldn't bring all the hard-hitting fighting skills she learned in Super Mario Bros. Most of Peach's abilities, apart from the 'emotional' ones below, revolve around Perry's ability to fight and maneuver, as pointed out in this YouTube video by The Completionist. Perry is a faithful ally but the narrative begins to focus around his past and his development, leaving Peach to once again be carried along for the ride as the story progresses. When Super Princess Peach begins, and Princess Peach sets out to rescue Mario, she is immediately given a male companion, a boy-turned-umbrella named Perry. The art, sound, and overall design are all top Nintendo quality, but it's hard to enjoy the work when Peach is demeaned like this.

It's tragic, however, that Nintendo decided that the best way to produce an adventure starring one of the most important characters in the Super Mario universe was to slap the game full of embarrassingly sexist plot points and game mechanics. Super Princess Peach has all the hallmarks of an excellent Super Mario game, even perpetuating the kidnapping cycle that seems to be a sticking point of Mario and Bowser's friendship. The Vibe Scepter unleashes a wave of different vibes across vibe island - not the only time a Mario game's theme ran a little too deep. After gathering the artifact, the Vibe Scepter, he captures Mario, Luigi, and some Toads, leaving Princess Peach to go after them. There is a new location, Vibe Island, where Bowser has set up a summer home in search of a mysterious artifact.
Super Princess Peach's story is a fairly straightforward example of Super Mario fare. It's too bad that ever since, fans have had to settle for playing Peach in Mario-centric games like Super Mario 3D World. Unfortunately, the game itself fails to truly give Peach any credit, instead tying up the story and her abilities in frankly tired sexist tropes. Super Princess Peach, released on the Nintendo DS way back in 2005, was Princess Peach's first real outing as a game's hero.
